Army the armadillo had a very big problem. He needed to go visit his grandmother. She had invited him to her birthday party, and he was very excited to go. He had spent all day looking for the perfect present. He was going to give her a candied apple he found at the fair.

The problem Army faced was the Great Gray Road. To get to grandma’s house, Army had to walk across the road where big cars zoomed by.  But Army was slow and there was no way to get across safely.  So Army turned to his friend, Bert the bear.

Army and Bert had been friends all their lives. When Army asked Bert what to do, Bert knew just what to do.

“Let’s play Rollie Pollie!”

Rollie Pollie was a game they both loved. Army would curl up like a ball, and Bert would roll him around.  So Bert knew if Army turned into a ball, Bert could roll him across the Great Gray Road very fast. Army said yes!

So Army curled up around the candied apple. Bert used his big paws to hold Army and then…whoosh! Army rolled so fast he was on the other side before he knew it.  Bert clapped and cheered. Army waved a thank you and happily waddled to his grandmother’s house safe and sound.
