Donkey is a land mammal which is domesticated for carrying loads and transporting goods. We also have wild donkeys. First time donkeys were domesticated about 5 thousand years ago. Wild ass live in dry environment.
It has normal medium sized body with leathery skin. It has erect ears and it is gray in color. It has long tail which have hairs on its tip.
Donkey is herbivore which feeds on green vegetation and grasses. Its teeth are modified for chewing the green plant fiber. Digestive system of donkeys is very strong so they can digest all plant fibers.
Offspring of a horse(male) and donkey (female) is called mule. Mule cannot further reproduce to increase its offspring. Mule is used for carrying loads and to plough in fields. In some areas, donkeys and mule are hunted to obtain meat.
Donkeys and mules are used for transporting heavy loads and carry from one place to other. They have been used for a long time to carry burdens and still today the perform the same task of carrying burdens. They are trained by human beings to perform some important tasks. Once donkeys are trained by their owner, they show great affection and loyalty to their owners. They have good memory so once if they walk on a way, they remember it. They return back on their way without any trouble.
