Tuataras are largest reptile among all reptiles. Mostly they are found in Africa and Australia. They are one of oldest creature of the world.

Appearance:
Tuataras have large and heavy body. They have very hard and tough skin. They have large and wide jaws which have very strong teeth. Their mouth is so wide and big when opened that it can eat even whole human. They have good eyesight. Their tail is narrow at tip but hard. They have legs for walking on land.

Habitat:
Tuataras live in water. They can be found in the seas but they like to live in fresh water of rivers and lakes. They can be seen in crowd or group in fresh water. They come out of water to hunt any animal. Usually they remain near water surface so that they could easily catch prey.

Feeding:
Tuataras are carnivorous. They feed on fishes and other animals that come to drink water from river. Size and type of prey depends upon size of crocodile. They remain near water surface and wait for any animal to come near water than suddenly catch it in mouth and eats.

Behavior:
Tuataras are very caring in their behavior. Female crocodile protects its eggs after lying. When eggs hatch out, they care and protect their young ones also.

Tuatara’s tail:
Tuatara’s tail is very important for them because it helps them in swimming in water. Moreover tail stores fats in it which are later used for nourishment of crocodile.
